Food and Addiction -project
“I was obsessed with food”
“I was ashamed of the quality of food I ate and how much I ate”
“Eating was a way to escape anxiety, sorrow, boredom or even joy”
“I can’t remember how many times I have started a new, healthy lifestyle and yet been unable to stick to it even for one week”
Most of us enjoy eating tasty, good food. However, for some people eating becomes compulsive. For those, uncontrollable eating becomes a burden – either by consuming large amounts of food at one time (binge eating) or by obsessed eating habits (e.g. bulimia).
Food addiction has physical, emotional, spiritual and social affects to an individual. Uncontrolled eating often leads to weight gain, which is followed by feelings of guilt, self-contempt and depression. Dieting, fasting and/or excessive exercise may be followed by “food orgies”. The vicious circle is draining, but recovery is possible!
The main aim of Food addiction –project by Myllyhoitoyhdistys is to increase the knowledge of addiction related to food and eating among healthcare professionals, healthcare students and those who may suffer from the disease.
We organise training, seminars and peer support groups for all of those who may be interested in topic.
Food addiction project is funded by RAY (Finland’s slot machine association).
